Hey Jehovah’s Witnesses! Thank you for coming to my door!

You will not believe what just happened to me!

I was praying when I was interrupted by a knock on the door.

My last request was maybe God would be so good to open a door for me to tell someone the gospel today.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

I had too little faith to think the door would be my own!

It took me a while to open the door, so I didn’t expect anyone to still be standing there.

But there was a well-dressed woman with an open Bible.

She smiled and said, “Can I share with you an encouraging thought from God’s word?”

This seemed too good to be true.

“Are you a Christian?!” Even I was surprised by how high and excited my voice sounded.

Her smile moved to a corner of her mouth. “Well, I think so…”

All of a sudden I noticed two other ladies walking down the sidewalk also wearing dresses. Two men followed behind in suits. Why was everyone in Huntington Beach so dressed up this morning? I realized what was happening:

THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES WERE INVADING MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!!

She asked me if I was concerned about what was happening to our planet?

Wait a minute! Did she just use the fact I have solar panels on my roof to bait me into a conversation?

A woman who has probably been a Jehovah’s Witness for decades just knocked on my door with her Bible already open trying to use #GreenEnergyBait to get me into a conversation…

GAME ON!

“You’re a Jehovah’s Witness!” I shouted for everyone to hear like it was a public service announcement. I could picture my wife and kids diving for cover behind me.

“Can I ask you what you believe about Jesus? Do you believe he has always been God or do you believe he is a created being?”

The very nice woman began to tell me the Jehovah’s Witness position on how Jesus was “the only begotten” and “the firstborn of all creation.” They believe this means he was created by God first and then he created everything else.

I asked her if it was possible that the phrase “only begotten” could refer to the Son’s relationship with the Father and not the fact that he was actually born?

Like a seasoned veteran she knew where I was going and immediately told me the Trinity was not in the Bible.

“Sure it is,” I said. “I mean the word Trinity is not in there, but look at this verse…”

I turned her Bible to Matthew 28:19 and read aloud:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

“See!” She quickly interrupted me. “There are three different names!”

“Then why does it only say “in the name of?” If it is three completely different individuals why is name singular? Wouldn’t it say in the names of? Or wouldn’t it read in the name of the Father and in the name of the Son and in the name of the Holy Spirit?”

“Well, you can’t tell me anything about the Bible because I already know-it-all!”

And then we had a very real moment.

She looked at me like she knew she shouldn’t have said that.

As our conversation continued, I began to see her differently. I imagined her as someone’s aunt or grandma. I bet she showed up with the best presents on Christmas. It was as if I could see past the time of the wrinkles on her face, like she was an eternal soul.

I was surprised when she said, “You’re saying these things because you are concerned for me aren’t you?”

“But don’t you think the Jehovah’s Witnesses are right based on their fruits?” She motioned to the black jeep that was now driving circles on my street waiting to pick her up. “I mean, no one is going around knocking on people’s doors like us!”

“Well, actually we are…” I told her about our new church plant of Compass Bible Church Huntington Beach. And how we had gone out inviting people to our new church at Marina High School. And how we still go out on Saturday mornings…”

I tried to invite her to our church but she interrupted me with:

“Well, you never came to my door!”

And then she was walking away… I tried to follow but she was in the mysterious black jeep and gone with her last words still hanging in the air:

“In the end one of us will be right and one of us will be wrong and I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…”

So, thank you to the sweet Jehovah’s Witness lady who came to my house this morning.

God sent you as an answer to prayer.

You reminded me why I am here.

You see, I know who Jesus is. He is one with the Father. He has all authority in heaven and on earth. And he has sent me to go and make disciples in the one name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

He has sent me to people like you.

So thanks for getting the conversation started by coming to my door.

And if you are a Christian reading this I could really use your help.

A very friendly Jehovah’s Witness woman just called me out to bring the real Jesus to her door.

Well, challenge accepted!

The only problem is I have no idea where she lives.

And there are a lot of doors out there.

So maybe you can help me.

I figure we’ll just start knocking on every door and talking to every one God opens the door for.

And we’ll tell them the good news Jesus is God. That he died for our sins and rose again.

And maybe someday we’ll knock on the door of the kindest Jehovah’s Witness woman I have ever met. And she’ll see there really are real Christians out there. And we really do care. And God will open her eyes to see Jesus… that he really is God… And there will be no more wait for her…just see…

If you want to join us at Compass Bible Church Huntington Beach we go out evangelizing every Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. We meet at our church office: 16168 Beach Blvd #121 Huntington Beach, CA 92647

This is awesome, Pastor Bobby. It brought tears to my eyes, and I’ll be praying on my drive home for her – and for God to open many more doors.

This was an awesome blog to read because it reminded me of my need to take part in this evangelism and furthermore, to be praying hard for the ministers (like you and the other saints of CBC HB) who are taking this message to doors in Huntington Beach every week. God is good to answer our prayers!

To be so detailed you must have recorded. Too many holes in your good story..let us know how knocking on doors works for you. We are all watching.

Sheila, We meet new people every week at Compass HB who were invited by someone knocking on their door!! It’s awesome to see what God is doing through door to door evangelism.
